Always evolving home labs

• Building home labs from decommissioned enterprise equipment • Installing Wireless routers and access points for home networks • Installing Fiber Optic cables from ISP Provider box to Lan cabinets • Correcting network issues to maximize speeds for working remote • Converting PC’s to Linux now that Microsoft no longer supports older hardware My personal home lab has a 4U server with dual Xeon 2695v2 12 cores, 128 gig ram, multi hot swap drives. I chose Proxmox VE as the hypervisor for its added security of individual firewalls around each LXC container or virtual machine. Ansible is used to deploy and maintain the servers. Within the primary server are; • Pihole ad blocker and recursive DNS VM; this protects the entire home network • OpnSense Firewall / router VM; all routing of wireless and wired traffic with packet inspection • TrueNas Core backup VM; all backups for the networks • ZoneMinder Surveillance VM; controls all camera traffic and recordings • JellyFin home media server VM, manage and share digital media files to network devices I enjoy creating servers to be used in ways maybe never intended. When adding or modifying I can usually find the drivers on a Utube channel or site reference. As an example, to ensure the system can transcode the videos there are TWO Quadro P1000 video cards in the server!
